Sylvana SpinaOccupational Therapist
Abilities Therapy is an OT service established and managed by occupational therapist, Sylvana Spina. Sylvana has over 24 years experience in working with children, adolescents and families. Our team privately runs a Children’s Occupational Therapy service based in the inner northern suburbs of Brisbane. Our clinic is based in Albion and we service schools and early childhood centres in the Clayfield, Ascot, Windsor, Wilston, New Farm, Hendra, Lutwyche and Wooloowin areas, as well as South and East Brisbane.
The team works collaboratively with other professionals and specialists including, but not limited to, speech language therapists/pathologists, psychologists, educators, centre directors, physiotherapists, optometrists, paediatricians and many more. This enables the development of individualised and group programs within a multi-disciplinary team service.
We work closely with parents, schools or centres to target goals which allows for the best support and outcomes for kids, families and all involved. We aim to support families, schools and other professionals in developing a child or adolescent's functional life skills using fun, focused activities and therapies. This may include anything from handwriting, social skills, sensory processing needs (such as the Alert or Engine program) to organisational skills, and anything in between!
We assist individuals to enhance their performance and achieve life occupations and roles. For our kids, this means play, self-care, school-work, learning, leisure and social skills. We target skill and role development whilst supporting the child’s learning and sensory needs. We help kids to understand how to maintain an optimum alert state in the best learning environment for them to help them attend, learn, participate and complete life activities at home, school and in the community.
We work with all children that may present with:
Therapy or support may take the form of individual or group sessions as well as consultation with schools, child care centres/pre-prep or at home, depending on the specific needs of your child.
We are NDIS, FaHCSIA (Helping Children with Autism Package) and Better Start approved and can .
